Riding an eFoil or jetboard in Dallas–Fort Worth
DFW has more water than people outside Texas expect and almost nobody riding electric on it yet. Lewisville, Grapevine, Ray Hubbard, Eagle Mountain, Joe Pool, Lavon — big reservoirs, close to the city, and the local reputation for being brown and choppy is only half true.

The lakes
Lake Grapevine — central to the whole Metroplex and probably the easiest to organize a session on. Busy on weekends, calm at dawn.
Lake Lewisville — the biggest playground up north. Wide open, so wind matters. Coves and the eastern arms hold calmer water.
Lake Ray Hubbard — the Dallas-side option, exposed and often windy. Great jetboard water, harder foil water.
Eagle Mountain Lake — the Fort Worth answer, with a heavily developed shoreline and plenty of private docks.
Joe Pool and Lavon — smaller crowds, worth considering on a weekend when the others are stacked.
The honest read on DFW conditions
Wind is the defining factor. North Texas reservoirs are open and exposed, and afternoon wind is more reliable here than almost anywhere else in the state. Dawn sessions are not a preference in DFW, they are the plan.
Water clarity is what it is. It does not affect the ride. It affects the photos.
Season is shorter than Central Texas. A wetsuit extends it substantially at both ends, and the lakes are genuinely empty in winter.
Board choice for North Texas
If you ride DFW reservoirs, start with the Awake RÄVIK jetboard. It is built for exactly this — chop, wind, open water — and it does not punish you for showing up at the wrong hour.
The Awake VINGA eFoil is the better machine when conditions cooperate, and in DFW that means early mornings and sheltered coves. Plenty of riders here own both and choose by the forecast.
